The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Verily, We have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer, seer. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 from a fountain called Salsabila. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 [And they will be told:] "Verily, all this is your reward since Your endeavour [in life] has met [God's] goodly acceptance!" 22
