The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
