The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
