The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
