The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Indeed there has been a time for man, when even his name did not exist anywhere. 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
