The Human (Al-Insan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur, 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 It will be said to them, “This is your reward – indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” 22
