The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Verily, the Abrar (pious, who fear Allah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafur. 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
