The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 [And they will be told:] "Verily, all this is your reward since Your endeavour [in life] has met [God's] goodly acceptance!" 22
