The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
