The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
