The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
