The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
