He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
