The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they differ? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
