The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
