The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they differ? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
