The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And [by] those who remove with ease 2 By the lone stars floating, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account). 5 On the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], 6 and will be followed by another quaking. 7 On that Day some hearts shall tremble (with fright), 8 and eyes will be humbly cast down. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They say, "That, then, would be a losing return." 12 Indeed, it will be but one shout, 13 When, behold, they find themselves over the earth alive after their death, 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa, 16 [saying], "Go to Pharaoh, he has exceeded all bounds, 17 And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)? 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 And he showed him the greatest sign, 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 He then turned away, striving in his effort. 22 and gathered his people together 23 And said, "I am your most exalted lord." 24 So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]. 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
