He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
