He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
