He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
