He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
