He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
