He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he feareth 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
