He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
