He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
