He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
