He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 In honored books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
