He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
