He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you give attention. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
