He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
