He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
