He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
