He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
