He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
