He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
