He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 You pay full attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
