He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
