He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
