He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
