He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
