He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
