The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 The mountains made to move, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 And when the Records of Account are laid bare. 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 No! I swear by the slinkers, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 The rising dawn, 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 Assuredly he beheld him in the horizon manifest. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 And it (the Quran) is not the word of the outcast Shaitan (Satan). 25 Where then will you go? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
