The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 And when the stars shall fall; 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together, 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 And when the souls he paired, 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 I swear by the receding stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 but you shall not, unless Allah wills, the Lord of all the Worlds. 29
