Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
