The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 NAY, VERILY - the record of the truly virtuous is [set down] in a mode most lofty! 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
