The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
