The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he shall call for destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
