The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
