The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
