The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
